Anastasia is the freckle-faced dynamo who can do just about anything – as long as she puts her mind to it – EXCEPT:
1. make her dad stop smoking.
2. find a girlfriend for her favourite uncle.
3. climb the ropes in the school gym.
What is the good of having all the answers if she’s got all the problems?!

Lois Lowry was born in 1937 in Honolulu, Hawaii, the daughter of an army officer. She went to school in Japan, university in the US and currently lives in Boston. While working as a freelance journalist in the 1970’s, Lois Lowry published a short story which was based on her own childhood and a children’s book editor contacted her to suggest she write for children. She followed this advice and has been writing for children, very successfully, for years!
The Girl Who Thinks for Herself is ANASTASIA KRUPNIK
She’s a crackle-brained, fizzle-headed, freckle-faced dynamo who has to know the ‘who, what, where, why and when’ of everything.
Anastasia has two ambitions. One is to be a journalist and the other is to win the gold for rope-climbing in the gym! It’s tough being thirteen, but challenges are the norm for the girl who thinks for herself!
