Mari Jo Buhle
Mari Jo Buhle is William R. Kenan Jr. University Professor and Professor of American Civilization and History at Brown University, specializing in American women’s history. She received her B.A. from the University of Illinois, Urbana—Champaign, and her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She is the author of Women and American Socialism, 1870—1920 (1981) and Feminism and Its Discontents: A Century of Struggle with Psychoanalysis (1998). She is also coeditor ofEncyclopedia of the American Left, second edition (1998). Professor Buhle held a fellowship (1991—1996) from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation.
Teresa Murphy
Teresa Murphy is Associate Professor of American Studies at George Washington University. Born and raised in California, she received her B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley and her PhD from Yale University. She is the author of Ten Hours Labor: Religion, Reform, and Gender in Early New England (1992) and is currently completing a study about the origins of women’s history in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. She is the former Associate Editor ofAmerican Quarterly.
Jane F. Gerhard
Jane F. Gerhard is a visiting assistant professor of History at Mount Holyoke College, specializing in American women’s history and the history of sexuality in America. She received her B.A. from Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, and her Ph.D. from Brown University. She is the author of Desiring Revolution: Second Wave Feminism and the Rewriting of American Sexual Thought, 1920 to 1982 (2001).
