An intricate account of human trials, satirically set in Paradise County long beset by deep poverty, from 2012 Nobel winner Guan Moye (1955 -), best known by his pen name Mo Yan. Of interest, Mo Yan, popularly translated as "don't speak", is also an ironic play on homophones of his given name, and, as author states, in honor of parental constant reminder that "loose lips" invites trouble in troubled times. 290 pgs.
