Captured in Burndive by Captain Cairo Azarcon, Yuri Terisov is now incarcerated in prison on Earth for his crimes as a pirate. Given the opportunity to escape, only to be forced to return to his old life by the Black Ops, a shadow government agency, Yuri heads into space to wrest back command of his old ship, Kublai Khan. To maintain Yuri's compliance, Andeas Lukacs, the Black Ops agent who engineered Yuri's escape, threatens the life of Finch, Yuri's only friend from prison. Forced to bring Finch with him, Yuri finds himself unconsciously indoctrinating Finch into the Pirate way, his return to that life inescapeable in both his mind and his heart. But Yuri cannot forget his childhood in refugee camps, his indoctrination into the pirates, and the love/hate relationship he has with the only "family" he's had. Seeing his pirate past unwittingly echoed in his treatment of Finch, Yuri comes to realize that the war isn't external, but within himself. He must finally decide if a pirate can be redeemed.
