In the 1940s. a distinguished professor of botany, J W Heslop Harrison announced the discovery of rare plants on the Isle of Rum in the Hebrides. This was the last straw for his botanical colleagues - the latest of a series of discoveries that had aroused suspicion over the years, many botanists believing he had invented his discoveries. A young Cambridge Don infiltrated the professor's expeditions and accused him of faking his results. Then - silence.The report was buried for 50 years but has now been uncovered by Karl Sabbagh and used as a starting point in unravelling a story that has been called the 'Piltdown Man of Botany'.

L'autore:
Karl Sabbagh gained his degree at Cambridge prior to joining BBC TV to produce science programmes. He is now an independent producer and writer and lives and works in London, producing documentaries for BBC and Channel 4. He has written articles for the Listener, Punch and World Medicine, and is the author of four books on such topics as the human body, the building of a skyscraper, and the design and construction of a new airliner.
