In his book The Art of The Snowflake, Dr Libbrecht explains that much of his work is done in his lab in california, but as his interest in this area has developed, he has spent increasing amounts of time in colder parts of canda and the United States, taking with him a prtable photo-microscope. 'Once a crystal is under the microscope, i have anywhere form a few minutes, on colder days, to a few seconds to adjust the lighting, focus and take the shot,' Dr Libbrecht says.'Everything must be done outside and only my camera has the luxuxry of a heater to keep it warm. it's an unusuall pursuit, but I enjoy it immensly.
