Judith Kelleher Schafer is associate director of the Murphy Institute of Political Economy at Tulane University, where she teaches law and history. Her first book, Slavery, the Civil Law, and the Supreme Court of Louisiana, won the Francis Butler Simkins Prize of the Southern Historical Association and the Louisiana Historical Association's L. Kemper Williams Prize. She lives in New Orleans with her husband.
