In contrast to the generally negative view of Appalachia by writers and photographers, this book shows a resourceful though poor farmer, who has been a talented cabinetmaker, dulcimer and clock maker, greenhouse builder, and lay preacher, besides being a most experienced farmer. It is a delight to read and one learns much from it.
