In the rich heritage of writers like Audre Lorde and June Jordan, award-winning author/activist asha bandele penned her first collection, Absence in the Palm Of My Hands (Harlem River Press, 1996). Nine years later, bandele returns home to poetry with her second powerful, highly anticipated collection of work, The Subtle Art of Breathing (Moore Black Press 2005) asha has read her poems across the United States and abroad. She is a loved and important voice among many of her contemporries, such as Kevin Powell, Tony Medina, Willie Perdomo and Ras Baraka.
