Valera and Drian begin their marriage in a time of difficulties for both their countries. Once their they face treason within the court and war without. Valera must cope with being alone at a new court as Drian must return to the battlefield. She learns to face threats that she had never before imagined and knows that her marriage is threatened by both the fact that they had so little time to come to know one another and by the threats to both of them within the court of Rheanel. Valera embarks on a journey of discovery of herself, her marriage, and the strength that she must develop to fight for a marriage that she now wants to survive all their trials.
