L'autore:
Harley Granville Barker (1877-1946) was one of the great theatrical all-rounders. As an actor he created many of the most famous roles in the plays of Bernard Shaw. As a playwright his work, including The Voysey Inheritance, was intensely popular at the time and is regularly revived today. As a director he mounted pioneering seasons of new drama and brilliantly fresh productions of Shakespeare. As a visionary he and William Archer published a plan in 1904 for a National Theatre, which was only finally realised in 1962. And as a critic, his Prefaces offer one of the best practical guides to Shakespeare s work yet written.
