Dal 18 giugno al 3 luglio 2016, 100 chilometri a est di Milano e 200 chilometri a ovest di Venezia, migliaia di persone potranno camminare sull'acqua. 70.000 metri quadri di tessuto giallo cangiante su una struttura modulare galleggiante composta da 200.000 cubi di polietilene ad alta densità: The Floating Piers di Christo, una passerella temporanea lunga 3 km sulla superficie del Lago d'Iseo, connetterà la terra ferma alla due isole di San Paolo e Monte Isola. La passerella, digradante ai lati, sarà larga 16 metri e alta circa 50 centimetri. I visitatori potranno camminare su quest'opera d'arte da Sulzano a Monte Isola, e da lì fino a San Paolo, oppure potranno ammirarla dall'alto dalle montagne che cingono il lago, scoprendo nuovi angoli e prospettive. The Floating Piers sarà il primo progetto su larga scala di Christo dopo The Gates, realizzato insieme a Jeanne-Claude nel 2005, ma solo l'ultimo di una lunga serie di lavori realizzati in Italia, tra cui: Wrapped Fountain e Wrapped Medieval Tower a Spoleto nel 1968, Wrapped Monuments a Milano nel 1970 e The Wall - Wrapped Roman Wall a Roma nel 1973-74. Come sempre nel caso dei progetti di Christo e Jeanne-Claude, anche The Floating Piers sarà interamente finanziato grazie alla vendita di opere originali di Christo. Dopo 16 giorni, tutti i componenti dell'installazione saranno smontati e riciclati. Questo volume raccoglie gli scatti fotografici più suggestivi dell'opera di Christo.

Wolfgang Volz has worked with Christo and Jeanne-Claude as the exclusive photographer of their works since 1971. He was also project director (with Roland Specker) for Wrapped Reichstag and (with Josy Kraft) for Wrapped Trees, and was in charge of The Wall - 13,000 Oil Barrels, 1999. His close collaboration has resulted in many books and more than 300 exhibitions in museums and galleries around the world.

Wolfgang Volz travaille avec Christo et Jeanne-Claude depuis 1971. Il a été directeur de projet (avec Roland Specker) du Reichstag Empaqueté et (avec Josy Kraft) des Arbres Empaquetés; il a également été responsable de The Wall, 13,000 Oil Barrels, en 1999, et Big Air Package, Gasometer Oberhausen, en 2013. C'est le photographe exclusif des œuvres de Christo et Jeanne-Claude. Jonathan William Henery est le fils de la sœur de Jeanne-Claude, Joyce May Henery. En 1993, il a obtenu le baccalauréat ès arts de l'Université de Fordham. Musicien, il a aussi été l'assistant à plein temps de Jeanne-Claude de 1996 à 2009 et continue à s'occuper du bureau de Christo aujourd'hui. Jonathan a collaboré à de nombreuses publications consacrées à leur travail.
