Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. THE SEA ANTHOLOGY, INCLUDING ONE HUNDRED ORIGINAL SONNETS OF THE SEA, edited by Alice Hunt Bartlett, forewords by Admiral Mark Kerr and Rear-Admiral Bradley A. Fiske, end papers by Dr. William A. Bartlett, hardcover, 1924. BOOK CONDITION: very good. The text block is in fine condition, with no tears, dogears, or marks. No bookplate or signature of a prior owner. Not a library book or remainder. The dark blue cloth boards are in good condition (wear to ends of spine, corners, and edges; tiny spot on front cover). 8 ¾ x 5 ½, 160 pages, 13 ounces XX [From Admiral Mark Kerr?s foreword] It is a happy thought of Mrs Bartlett to make a Sea Anthology following after a competition she initiated for the best Sea Sonnets. 'I'he Sea herself has been rather neglected by the versifiers of the world in her own proper person. She has been used as a setting for stories, as a background for romances, but her own personality has been subordinated to the plot. Mrs. Bartlett, by her action, has done much to repair the omission. There is nothing that works with so many effects upon the human mind as the ever-changing Sea. It makes us realise distance as gazing across the land or up into the limitless sky never does. It has a way of suggesting Eternity in its ever-moving surface. 'I'he chaos of a hurricane is equally suggestive, in a perfectly opposite manner, with the peace of a calm and moonlit sea. There is no human emotion that she does not symbolise. Her depths are full of mystery and unknown, though suspected, life, and her length and breadth exceeds anything else in Nature, so that to poetry, which is the beautiful rhythmic expression of imagination, she should be an unequaled source of inspiration. The Sea is grateful to Mrs. Bartlett, and will sing her a new Ode when next she sits beside her beach, or rests upon her bosom.
