Specific linguistic characteristics are listed and linguist studies to define Black Dialect, which many disadvantaged Black children speak. "In an effort to garner examples of these twelve features of Black Dialect, those who worked with the Project taped approximately 500 elementary children in the intermediate grades of the East St. Louis, Illinois, public schools."."the material used in the lessons which follow may well reflect the basic speech patterns of a major segment of black students throughout the U.S."."As pre-service or in-service teachers.your participation in these lessons will mean that you will be in a better position to help many disadvantaged blacks."
