Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Gilt lettering is bright and clear. Book has a slight forward lean. Minor wear marks to boards.

There is also the name of a previous owner (revered Oxford scholar Tony COCKSHUT) written in pencil to the front free end paper plus some browning to the end papers. The dust jacket is fair with some general chipping and creasing to the edges and corners culminating in 3 moderate tears. There is also some staining to the edges.

Overall, a solid, Near Very Good copy in a Good+ dust jacket, which has chips to the spine ends and corners, dulling with smudging and soiling to the covers and spine, and wear with some short creased tears to the edges. The jacket is wrapped in Mylar.
