Original pair of sepia-toned photos of oversized mock-ups of the 1945 New Directions edition of F. Scott FitzgeraldÕs novel The Great Gatsby designed by Alvin Lustig promoting the 1949 film version starring Alan Ladd as Jay Gatsby. One photo shows Alan Ladd in a casual pose, standing next to the bookÕs mock-up with one arm resting on its top edge. And the other shows Ladd with most of the rest of the cast posed around the edges of the book, including Betty Field, Barry Sullivan, Macdonald Carey, Howard De Silva, and Ruth Hussey. 8 inches by 10 inches. Both are in very good slightly handled condition with the photo of Alan Ladd on his own having a half inch tear to the left edge and some minor creasing to the top left corner. The film was directed by Elliott Nugent with a screenplay by Richard Maibaum and Cyril Hume. The pair:
