Editore: Privately printed for Edward Arber, London, large-paper copies, 1903-6, 1903
Da: Wykeham Books, LONDON, Regno Unito
Special limited edition of 100 numbered large-paper copies (from a total edition of 2000), signed by Prof Arber. 3 vols, later buckram, royal 4to, xvi, 576 + x, 664 + x, 742 pp. This is a large format reprint of the "Term Catalogues", a series of catalogues of new books that began in November 1668 and represent one of the earliest systematic attempts at a near -complete bibliographic record. After the first issue, the series continued at the rate of four issues a year for until June 1709 (covering the reigns of Charles II, James II, William and Mary, and Anne) : the name "Term Catalogues" reflects the fact that issues appeared about the middle of each of the four law terms in the year. In all, the catalogues record about 20,000 editions of books for the 41 years during which they appeared, and as Arber claims " are a most wonderful survey and conspectus of a most stirring period of English history and literature - a period crowded with great thinkers, great writers, and great men of action". With title index, and author index, glossary and notes. Set A20 of 100 large-paper copies. An ex-library set, with library stamps and marks on the limitation pages, and one or two other pages. Later buckram, with the original morocco title labels (rubbed and with loss) laid down on the spines, covers a trifle rubed. Bookplates on the front pastedown endpapers, contents Very Good save for the few library marks.
